Directions
to Sperry's Instrument Repair, Piņon Hills, California
1. Call first for an appointment: (760) 868-5124
2. Directions:
A. If you're driving from the High Desert, get on
Interstate 15.
In Hesperia, exit at Main
Street. Turn west (toward the setting sun).
Follow Main Street for 13.5
miles. It will turn into Phelan Road along the way.
Drive beyond downtown Phelan
until you get to Route 138 (there's a signal there).
Turn right
onto Route 138.
Drive past Oasis Road
(there's a signal there).
Turn left at the next
street. There's a Chevron station on the corner. That's
Mountain Road.
(If you cross the L.A. County
line, you've gone too far.)
Go to Step 3.
B. If you're driving from south of the Cajon Pass, drive
north on Interstate 15, heading for Barstow.
Just after the truck scales,
exit at Palmdale/138 and turn left.
Please turn on your headlights
for safety.
Drive west 14.5 miles, always
heading for Palmdale.
Drive past Oasis Road
(there's a signal there).
Turn left at the next
street. There's a Chevron station on the corner. That's
Mountain Road.
(If you cross the L.A. County
line, you've gone too far.)
Go to Step 3.
C. If you're
driving from Palmdale, take Highway 138 toward San Bernardino.
When you cross the county line
from Los Angeles County into San Bernardino County, look for
the Chevron station on the right.
Turn right there onto Mountain Road.
Go to Step 3.
3. Drive uphill on Mountain Road for
0.5 miles. Look for a block wall on the right.
(If you see a sign on the right that says "Fry's
Landing," you've gone too far.)
4. Turn right on Rockrid -- the wide dirt road just past
the block wall. There's a yellow fire hydrant there.
The street sign is a white post in the dirt with
Rockrid written in red.
5. Drive past the Kim Family sign. The road narrows.
Drive past the sign on the fence that reads "853".
You'll see a faded yellow fire hydrant.
The road continues around the left side of the fire
hydrant, but don't follow that.
Instead, turn diagonally to the right before
the fire hydrant, onto the gravel.
That's the driveway to Sperry's Instrument Repair (the
blue [some say it's green] house).
There may be horses on your right as you approach the
gate.
6. Slide the gate open (if it's closed) and drive in.
There will be more horses on your left as you drive
in. You may leave the gate open.
Drive to the far end of the blue [green] house and
park. Don't turn right at the end of the house.
Someone will come out to greet you.
7. If you get lost, call (760) 868-5124 for help.
